Wisenlore: The Western Frontier
Marks of Wisenlore – Marks of Wisenlore are silver coins worth 5GP each. In the realms under wisenlore control they are always valued at 5GP, but outside of Wisenlore values may vary. A Mark’s raw material value is 2sp due to their size being twice that of a silver. Traders who have free access to wisenlore lands will tend to value the Marks at between 1GP and 4GP outside of controlled lands. Those with no access will value a mark at less than 1GP. Those with political reasons to despise wisenlore may not accept the currency at all.
Bits, Commons, Griffins, Crowns – These are copper pieces, Silver, Gold and Platinum respectively. The terms griffins and crowns come from the mountain dwarves because old coins were originally stamped with the runes for these words. Bits and commons are terms from the original wisenlore settlers.
Flecks and Shards – The currency of the elves. These are pieces of crystal native to the earth floor of the forest. These terms are actually units of weight. A fleck is a thumbnail size of crystal and a shard is a crystal as long as an elven index finger. A variety of gemstones use these terms and it does become confusing to outsiders as to their value in elven society. The most common crystal is quartz, and so outsiders use the terms fleck and shard in relation to these crystals. A fleck is a copper piece, a shard is 5 silver. Because of the range in value, 10 shards could be a large quartz crystal, or a tiny emerald.
